Noted Education Technology Innovator Addressed School Board Administrators With Differentiated Activities and Strategies for Annual Professional Performance Review Assessors
Buffalo, New York – PLS 3rd Learning Executive Vice President and education technology expert Michael Horning, Jr., was selected as a featured co-presenter for the 2013 WNY Summer Education Law Conference. This year’s annual meeting of school attorneys, staff and board of education members, administrators and legal advisors in Erie County was held at the Byblos Niagara Resort & Spa, Grand Island, New York on Wednesday, August 7.
Horning co-presented “TIPs and PIPs,” an exploration of ways to approach New York State Education Department’s provisions and mandates of Education Law §3012-c regarding annual professional performance reviews (APPR) of classroom teachers and building principals. Co-presenting with Horning was Karl W. Kristoff, lead attorney for the Education Law Practice Group of Buffalo law firm Hodgson Russ.
The presentation covered such critical information as the assessment of progress when dealing with inadequate teachers, the over-prescription of remedial activities, and the timelines involved. Horning illustrated differentiated activities and strategies that can be assigned to teachers needing improvement, and discuss ways such improvements can be assessed.
The WNY Summer Education Law Conference was co-sponsored by the WNY Educational Service Council and the Erie County Association of School Boards, in cooperation with the Erie-Niagara School Superintendents Association.
